Nature Art - Natural Clay Frog II Bobby (advancing onwards from Bob the Frog)
This session shows you how to make 'Bobby' a more representative image of a frog. Here we build on skills learnt creating Bob the Frog and move to use a basic ovoid (egg like shape) to build a frog body and then cylinders and ovals for the limbs. You can always paint Bobby afterwards once dry, or you can learn to love the natural clay outcomes as they are.
Historically we have been crafting and working with clay earth for centuries, why not take a walk near you and see if you can find a natural clay source - ours is from a stream near us and therefore quite sandy to work with. Of course you can also use any clay like substance to make this activity but the outcome will vary slightly.
Take a moment to look at our other frog themed activities in different Wellbeing Activity sections if you want to build a bigger day around pond life and frogs.
For this activity you will need:
Natural clay - or clay like substance, a bowl of water & a paperclip
Recommended: Apron, towel and wipeable surface to work on
Whilst using this art resource to inspire learning, know you are helping you and your family's wellbeing like this: 1) Get Active - taking a family walk to collect the initial clay resource not only gets you out and walking but also learning about the local environment, waterways and physical geography. 2) Keep Learning - Learn how using clay shapes (ovoid, cylinders and ovals), you can work them a little to build a lovely representative frog.
3) Be Mindful - Take your time when looking for and collecting clay, embed yourself deeply in your local surroundings and be mindful that there is a whole planet underneath our paved existence. This kind of nature connection is calming to our nervous systems. Making and creating objects is also an activity that develops focus in our minds and brings about satisfaction and calm.
4) Practice Kindness - Remember that everyone's outcome will differ, respond with enthusiasm and respect and watch your child's confidence grow.
5) Think Community - Gift Bobby the Frog to family, friends and neighbours to give them a smile.
