Before you begin this session please read and listen to our Introduction to Yoga with We Be Kids .
This session is based on the story of The Cracked Pot . The story itself and associated activities can also to be found in our Storytelling and Nature Art areas. During this yoga session you can follow along and copy the postures and discover the essence of the story together in one. In this resource we use the story to help us address our worries about our own self esteem and how by comparing ourselves to others we often miss the reality of ourselves. Each of us has areas of strength (e.g. perhaps you get on with your siblings really well - showing generosity of the heart in sharing your belongings with them and love by looking out for them), and areas that challenge us more (e.g. perhaps you struggle to settle after school to your homework in the way you think your parents would like you to). Learn how perhaps what you think of as your 'challenges', may in fact turn out to be flaws of beauty - perhaps we just need to change how we view the situation.
By taking part in this session you can boost your metabolic system, gain a new perspective on life and improve your family's overall wellbeing, know you are helping you and your family's wellbeing like this: 1) Get Active - get your body moving with this physical yoga session, it may not quite be running a marathon but regular yoga practice will reap many benefits to your physical body and your mind. Practicing yoga can: help our posture; build body movement awareness; make us aware of our breath and how it affects us; help us work with our emotions and ask us to question ourselves and our beliefs about many things and so much more. 2) Keep Learning - use this session to help your body and mind learn new physical postures, hand mudras (positions) and ways of breathing. Link it with the story and the additional activities and you have a fun day of learning ahead. 3) Be Mindful- Use the relaxation in the session to help you consider how what we may consider to be our flaws may in fact be our greatest gifts - how do you feel about that, if you don't believe that why not? Consider yourself as utterly perfect, that you have a place in this universe that doesn't need you to compare yourself with others. How does that make you feel? 4) Practice Kindness- In yoga only ever practice with kindness to yourself - EVERY practice is different and our bodies will feel the postures differently every time. Yoga should never hurt. Look after yourself - there is only one of you and you are important and matter. 5) Think Community - Practice this session with your community - eg your family, and we look forward to your responses in the comments below. #yoga #familyyoga #familyactivity #kidsactivity #childrensyoga #childactivity #positivewellbeing #mindfulness #selfawareness #fun #movethatbody #thecrackedpot
